Leadership Development Areas

The LD team is pleased to announce the new role of the Leadership Development Area Coordinator. As such, they will be working directly with the elected officers and chapters in their assigned areas. They will be your go-to person for any issues or concerns with LD. They also have been asked to help communicate and inform you of various opportunities that the Leadership Development Committee can offer. We would encourage you to use them as a resource and include them on newsletters, E-mail lists, Facebook or any other media you may use.

In addition, the Area Coordinator will hold conference calls with your region reps and other LD folks to work with you, determine what needs you have and how we can best address them for the chapters and their members.

CAPS

The Chapter Assessment and Planning Session (CAPS) is a tool to help a chapter identify its goals and begin to plan for the coming year, based on an assessment of the past year. It is not designed to be a comprehensive, point--point analysis of all chapter operations. It is also not designed to plan every activity or to set the calendar in stone for the coming year. However, it should identify areas the chapter wants to improve and key events or activities the chapter wants to see happen. To see the current handbook on the Chapter Assessment and Planning Session (CAPS), click on download now.

Upon completion of the CAPS, a report should be completed by the Chapter President (or an Executive Board member designated by the President) and submitted to the National Office.

This level of training is a combination of two courses, Facilitation Skills and Presentation Skills. It is called basic because of the commonality of the skills to any type of presenting and group work. To successfully complete the course, a trainee must demonstrate competence with these skills.

An important point to emphasize is that ANYONE can go through the Basic Skills portion of training. These two courses are also part of the basic volunteer development track offered to Internal Volunteers (operational staff). Trainees prove themselves during training. Those trainees who may need to polish their skills can simply go through the necessary Basic Skills course again until they are more comfortable with the skills. These basic skills courses are designed to allow a trainee to focus on improving their skills rather than being overloaded with simultaneously learning the content of a particular course.

SERVE
Looking for something interesting, new and exciting to do during your summer vacation?! Lead all year long by attending a summer leadership development weekend! The summer weekends have become such a successful and well-received part of Alpha Phi Omega's leadership development program that they are offered each summer in multiple locations around the country, allowing members from all regions of the country to have access to its unique features. There's no restriction on which weekend you can attend - any one that is convenient is open to you, regardless of the region your chapter is in.

Each weekend consists of the all new SERVE course and is staffed by trained alumni volunteers. The weekend events provide the opportunity for you to get answers and ideas from those who have "been there" and know the ropes. Some sites may also offer training courses for alumni volunteers to train to become SERVE presenters.
